Styling Tips

Refreshing a tired bathroom doesn’t have to cost the earth.

We have a selection of products to suit any budget. Why not use our bathroom planner link, this will help you to plan the layout of your bathroom but will also help you to calculate the cost.

While there are many contemporary suites on offer; baths don’t tend to change in shape and style dramatically, so if you existing suite is looking tired why not keep your bath and just replace the pottery. A new four piece suite (basin, pedestal, toilet pan and cistern) can completely revive your bathroom.

Update your bath panels, you don’t have to replace them with more panels, consider tiling around the bath for a contemporary look.

You could keep you existing suite and re-tile the walls, this will immediately transform your bathroom. There are some very contemporary tiles on the market in all sorts of finishes from glass to slate. Visit our showroom to see our range of tiles, and for some inspiration. You will be amazed at the results.

For quick results, why not replace the accessories. Mirrors are great for creating the illusion of light and space in small dark rooms. Glass shelves are perfect for bathrooms; they look smart and are easy to clean. (Make sure they are toughened glass though). There are many other modern accessories that can bring your bathroom into the here and now; even by introducing colour to your room with bright coloured towels.

Slipper and Roll top baths

Many people are opting for the traditional Roll Top and Slipper Roll Baths. They are perfectly suited to period properties and add a touch of class to any bathroom. Why not coordinate the bath with the colour scheme of the room. It is possible to paint the underside of the bath with acrylic paint. Roughen with sandpaper and then apply the paint. In theory this sounds easy – but I would strongly recommend seeking professional advice before doing this.

Wet rooms

The wet room has seen renaissance in recent years. A wonderful idea, but please always seek professional advice from someone who has installed a wet room before.

We have a product called WEDI that we recommend to anyone considering a wet room. This product is preformed and completely waterproof. It forms the shower tray as well as wall panels. The wonderful thing about WEDI is that you no longer need to tank your bathroom, just lay and tile on immediately.

Things to bear in mind when installing a wet room.

Seek professional advice, particularly if you are considering installing a wet room on an upper floor. With so much water splashing about, it would just be awful if half of it ended up in the room below. Also bear in mind the combined weight of a completely tiled room and ensure that there are sufficient load bearing walls capable of supporting the weight.

Without the enclosure, the shower areas in Wet Rooms are not always the warmest places. Under floor heating is a great idea; but remember water and electricity don’t mix.

Remember Wet Rooms like all other bathrooms require good ventilation to minimise condensation. Installing a wall extractor fan is a great idea. You know what’s as useful? Opening a window…

If in doubt there are many beautiful walk in shower enclosures that can look equally fantastic.

Small Spaces

If you have a small bathroom, do not despair as there are many space saving products on the market, that allow you to do "compact and bijoux".

Corner Suites fit snugly into valuable that would otherwise be wasted space.
Vanity Units with semi recessed sinks provide useful storage space for toiletries, towels etc.

There is a number of small baths starting at 1200ml, designed for compact bathrooms.

In addition, mirrors are great for creating the illusion of light and space in small dark rooms, as are glass shelves with their translucent qualities. They look smart and are easy to clean. (Make sure they are toughened glass though). High gloss tiles also help to transform dark rooms by reflecting light.
